They love it apparently but I am one of those that when I get started in one, I want to stick with it because DAWs take a long time to learn how to bend them to your will.Īnyway, I hope my comments help you out. Studio One is a DAW that I have heard a lot of composers transition to from Cubase and other DAWs. As far as having an intuitive interface for creating a good template, I can't help you there. This is just a simple button that automatically converts the midi to audio which is very helpful. Sonar X3 (iirc) has the track freeze feature as well and it more streamlined than Cubase's version of it. It has the track folders capability plus a very good routing system in my opinion.

Cubase also has a very clean cut setup for creating a good template. However, the downside is if you want to edit, you have to unfreeze which takes the time to load all the samples intended in that instance of your VST plugin (such as Kontakt). So you can record, edit, freeze, and you are good to move on.
#Sonar x3 jbridge full
I find myself using this more than either of the full templates which take forever to load and, as a project progresses toward the end, I find myself spending a lot of the time I gained using a template deleting unused patches that are just sitting there just to remove some of the visual pollution.Ĭubase 7+ has the ability to freeze the VST rack instruments which unloads the instruments from RAM but maintains the Audio. The problem is both my large orchestra templates load into the machine at well over 16GB so just the template would overwhelm your machine.Īn option would be to go with a minimal template (for me 9GB), just loading your most used instruments & articulation in each instrument, putting strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion each in their own submix so you save a bit more RAM on section fx.

So a very cheap and easy solution for your template issue AND BTW Mixcraft will be going 64 bit sometime late 2014.

I bridge 64 bit Kontakt and Play into it using jBridge with very few issues. I'm using templates in Mixcraft which BTW does have the ability to save templates. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions that you may have on the topic. I don't believe that's possible, but I need to be sure, one way or the other, before abandoning or going forward with this idea.

), each with their own distinct patch settings and channel settings (volume, pan, eq and other fx), but only have them "activated" (ie loaded into memory) if needed. Ideally I would like to be able to create a template including all relevant articulations from my various kontakt libraries, organized by section (strings, ww, brass, perc.

My main concern is that I wouldn't want to move to a new DAW just for the sake of working with a full orchestral template if the outcome (that I strongly suspect is just around the corner) is that by doing so, all the articulations and patches that I've included in that template will necessarily be preloaded into memory on startup, because that would undoubtedly have my PC on it's knees within seconds (I'm using an i7, 8-core laptop with SSD's, but only 16 Gb RAM). Īs far as I can see Ableton doesn't have a very efficient way of creating templates, but I'm otherwise very happy with it for the sort of work I'm doing. I'm a PC user and for financial reasons will probably remain one, so Logic for example is not an option. After seeing a few tutorials on creating / using templates, including some great resources posted by Blakus ( ), I'm beginning to wonder if I should switch from my current DAW (Ableton Live 8 ) to Cubase or to any other suggested alternative that would fit what looking for.
